EDGE License Portal — Quick-Start Guide

Quick-Start Guide # #

The EDGE License Portal is your central hub for managing EDGE software licenses across your organization. Use it to assign seats to team members, transfer or revoke access, view a full audit history of license activity, and request additional seats from the EDGE sales team.

This guide walks you through each task step by step. Keep it nearby the first few times you use the portal — once you’ve assigned a license or two, the rest will feel familiar.

1. Signing In #

The portal uses a passwordless email-code login. There is no password to remember or reset; each time you sign in, the portal sends a one-time verification code to your email address.

Step 1: Enter your email #

Navigate to the License Portal in your web browser at licensing.edgeforbim.com/login. On the login screen, enter the email address associated with your EDGE account and click Send Login Code.

Step 2: Retrieve your code from email #

Open your inbox and look for an email from EDGE Software with the subject “Your Login Code.” It contains a six-digit verification code that is valid for 10 minutes.

Login code email

Note: If you don’t see the email within a minute or two, check your spam or junk folder. If it still hasn’t arrived, return to the login screen and click Send Login Code again to request a fresh code.

Step 3: Enter the verification code #

Back on the portal, type the six-digit code into the verification screen and click Verify Code. You’ll be signed in and taken straight to your dashboard.

2. The Dashboard at a Glance #

Take a moment to get oriented once you land on the portal dashboard:

Dashboard overview

  1. Company name (top left). Your company name is displayed at the top of the page (in this example, “EDGE Software Licenses”).
  2. Assigned and Available tabs. Directly below your company name, the Assigned and Available tabs split your seats into two views. Click either tab to toggle between the list of seats currently in use and the pool of seats still available to assign. Counts are shown next to each tab name.
  3. Product summary boxes (top right). Each EDGE product your company owns appears in its own box, showing the total number of seats included in that product’s license. The boxes work similarly to the Assigned and Available tabs — selecting a product box filters the dashboard to show only the seats for that specific product, and the active product “box” is outlined.
  4. Request additional seats. A button in the top-right header for requesting more seats from EDGE sales. Covered in section 6.
  5. Account icon. The circular icon at the far top right opens a menu with Audit Logs, License Requests, and Sign Out. Covered in section 7.

3. Assigning a License Seat #

To put EDGE software in a user’s hands, you need to assign one of your available seats to them. Each seat is bound to a specific Username and Machine ID, which the user will see inside Revit the first time they launch EDGE.

Step 1: Have the user open Revit #

Ask the user to install EDGE and launch Revit on the machine they’ll be using. The first time they open Revit after installing EDGE, two prompts appear in sequence.

First, the End User License Agreement. The user must click I Agree to continue.

EULA dialog

Next, the EDGE^R License Request dialog. This is where the user finds the two pieces of information you need: their Username and Machine ID. Each value has a small copy icon next to it for easy copying.

Ask the user to send you both values (the dialog has a copy button next to each — they can paste them into an email or chat message). Have them keep the dialog open; they’ll return to it once you provide the license key.

Step 2: Open the Assign License dialog #

In the portal, navigate to the Available tab and click the Assign button on the row for the product you want to assign. (If your company has multiple products, make sure the correct product box is selected at the top right.)

The Assign License dialog opens.

Step 3: Enter the user’s details #

Paste the Username and Machine ID exactly as the user provided them, then click Assign License.

Note: Both fields are case-sensitive and must match what Revit shows on the user’s machine. Copy and paste rather than retyping to avoid mistakes.

Step 4: Copy the license key #

On success, the portal displays a License Allocated confirmation along with the new license key. Click the copy icon next to the key to copy it to your clipboard, then click Done.

4. Delivering the License Key to the User #

Send the license key to the user (email, chat — whatever works for your team). They’ll paste it into the same License Request dialog they had open in Revit.

Step 1: User pastes the key into Revit #

In the License Request dialog, the user pastes the key into the input field below the Username and Machine ID.

Step 2: Click Enter License Key #

Once the user clicks Enter License Key, EDGE activates on their machine. After Revit finishes loading, the EDGE^R tab will appear in the Revit ribbon, and the user is ready to start working.

5. Revoking or Transferring a License #

When a team member leaves, switches machines, or no longer needs EDGE, you can either revoke their seat (returning it to your available pool) or transfer it directly to another user.

Finding the actions menu #

On the Assigned tab, locate the row for the user whose license you want to change. In the rightmost Actions column, click the three vertical dots icon to open the actions menu. The menu offers two options: Transfer key and Revoke access.

Option A: Revoke a license #

Choose this when you want to free up the seat without immediately reassigning it.

  1. From the actions menu, click Revoke access.
  2. Review the username and machine ID shown in the Revoke License Access dialog to confirm you’re revoking the correct license.
  3. Click Revoke Access to complete the action, or Cancel to back out.

Note: Revoking a license immediately returns the seat to your Available pool, and the user will lose access to EDGE software the next time it checks in.

Option B: Transfer a license #

Choose this when you want to move an existing license directly from one user/machine to another in a single step.

Actions menu, transfer key option

  1. From the actions menu, click Transfer key.
  2. In the Transfer EDGE^R License dialog, the current license holder is shown on the left. On the right, enter the Username and Machine ID of the new license holder. (You’ll get these from the new user the same way as in section 3 — by having them open Revit and read the values from the License Request dialog.)
  3. Click Complete Transfer.

The license key itself stays the same; the new user enters that same key in their License Request dialog to activate EDGE on their machine.

6. Requesting Additional Seats #

When your team grows beyond the seats you currently own, you can request more directly from the portal. The request goes to our admin team, and a member of EDGE sales will reach out to you to finalize the order.

  1. Click the Request additional seats button in the top-right corner of the dashboard.
  2. In the License Request dialog, choose the Product and number of seats from the drop-down menus.
  3. Pick a desired License activation date and add any Comments you want our team to see (e.g., a PO number, project context, or special timing).
  4. Click Send.

You’ll see a Request sent! confirmation. Our sales team will follow up with you shortly to confirm the order.

7. The Account Menu #

The account icon in the top-right corner of the portal opens a drop-down menu with Audit Logs, License Requests, and Sign out.

Account menu dropdown

Audit Logs #

Audit Logs show a complete history of actions taken in the portal by every user at your company — logins, license allocations, deallocations, transfers, and seat requests. Each entry records the time, the event, and which administrator performed it.

Use the search bar at the top of the page to filter by event type or username. The list is paginated; use the controls at the bottom of the table to step through older entries.

License Requests #

License Requests shows the status of every additional-seats request your company has submitted, so you can check whether a request is still pending or has been fulfilled.
