FAQ

At this time, EDGE Software does not offer a free trial of EDGE^R.  There are hundreds of tools to evaluate and loads of customizable content.  We provide a 30-day paid Proof of Concept program that comes with training and support.  Contact us to learn more.

If you do not already have Autodesk Revit, you can download a free trial in the USA here.
Your Autodesk reseller should be able to assist you with a free trial as well.  If not, try contacting our Autodesk reseller, ATG.

Some customers choose to limit access to the Admin tab on the EDGE ribbon for some roles within their workflow. The _Admin.msi installer provides for complete usage of the EDGE^R product while the _Standard.msi installer disables the Admin tab and some additional settings.

EDGE^R has been a commercial product available for the North American precast market since 2015.  The current release version is v13.0.0 as of January 8, 2026.  You can find a complete list of product changes here.

Yes, you can import AutoCAD files (like DWG files) into Revit for precast concrete projects. Once imported, you can use the Bulk Family Updater tool to add data attributes used by EDGE tools to expand your BIM.

Revit supports a wide range of industry standards and file formats, including: Revit native formats: RVT, RFA, RTE, RFT. CAD formats: DGN, DWF, DWG, DXF, IFC, SAT, and SKP. Image formats: BMP, PNG, JPG, JPEG, and TIF.

EDGE^R is a Revit-integrated plugin developed for the precast concrete industry. It automates and streamlines modeling, detailing, ticketing, and data preparation. EDGE^R extends native Revit capabilities by applying logic and parameters tailored to precast workflows — including tools for void cutting, warping, mark assignment, and shop ticket generation.

EDGE^CAM enables exporting production data to precast machinery. Supported formats include Unitechnik UXML, Progress PXML, and other plant-specific file types. It links modeled geometry with machine-driven fabrication.

EDGE^Cloud provides web-based access to model data and tickets for approval workflows or remote coordination. EDGE^ERP connects modeling outputs to production management tools, allowing real-time syncing with enterprise resource planning systems — useful for scheduling, batching, and costing.

EDGE^R provides a ticket template manager organized by manufacturer so you can easily create shop tickets based on your templates. With our Auto Ticket Generation and Clone Ticket tools you can automatically generate entire sets of shop tickets for assemblies in your model with just a few clicks. This video provides a quick overview of EDGE^R shop ticket tools.

Precast engineering Design-Assist is a collaborative approach that involves precast concrete producers in the design phase of a project to optimize the precast elements and ensure a successful and cost-effective construction process. This early integration allows precast producers to leverage their expertise, refine designs, identify potential constructability issues, and provide valuable input on finishes, logistics, and scheduling, ultimately leading to enhanced aesthetics, efficiency, and budget control. EDGE^R is designed for engineers, drafters, and production teams. It supports roles from estimating through erection, and works best in environments that require high-volume precast detailing, standardization, and downstream automation.

EDGE Software provides a comprehensive one week long live virtual training workshop for its users. The models utilized in the training are provided each day along with the class recording. We are also in the process of making previously recorded training available to all our customers.

EDGE^R installs as a Revit add-in and typically supports the latest three versions of Revit. Installers come with shared parameters and templates needed to run EDGE workflows. A successful setup also requires configuring the EDGE Browser and linking project templates.

EDGE^R requires a robust workstation setup: 32GB RAM minimum, SSD storage, and a dedicated GPU are recommended. It works in both local and cloud-hosted environments (like BIM 360). Cloud models require special attention to syncing, file permissions, and worksets.

EDGE precast engineering software provides a comprehensive and robust set of tools for creating precast assemblies with reinforcement which can be copied to similar elements in your model.

The number one platform for structural engineers is Autodesk Revit. For precast specialty engineering projects, many companies use EDGE^R which runs on the Revit platform.

EDGE^CAM can be used to export assemblies to Unitechnik (UXML) and Progress (PXML) CNC formats.  Additionally, EDGE^R provides an insulation export function for CNC cutting.

For manufacturers, EDGE Software precast tools streamline detailing, reduce manual drafting, and improve accuracy in fabrication drawings. Integrated data export supports estimating, scheduling, and shop automation, helping minimize errors, shorten production timelines, and reduce costs. By working from a coordinated 3D model, manufacturers can ensure every precast element is built right the first time.

The EDGE^R download includes the full suite of precast detailing tools, Revit integration, sample projects, and a library of parametric components, connections, and reinforcement families. It also comes with user documentation, training resources, and support access to help you get started quickly.

At this time we do not offer a free-trial anyone can download.  However, we do offer a limited duration Proof of Concept license for a small fee following a brief consultation.  When paired with our live virtual training, users are able to use all the EDGE^R tools to determine if the software is a good fit for their business.

EDGE^R is designed to feel familiar to anyone with Revit experience, so most users can start creating precast models within hours. While mastering advanced features may take a few weeks, built-in templates, automation tools, and training resources help new users ramp up quickly and work efficiently with minimal trial and error.

EDGE^R automates shop ticket creation by turning assemblies into sheets using templates, reinforcing tools, and warping logic. Tools like “Top as Cast,” “Mark Assembly as Reinforced,” and “Auto Ticket Generation” ensure that assemblies are ready for accurate documentation.

EDGE covers the full detailing lifecycle — from placing smart families and voids to controlling views and generating erection drawings. Tools like MultiVoid Cutting, View Filters, and BOM Hosting ensure model data is production-ready. Erection drawings are enhanced using custom view filters for warp/flat products.

Supported exports include Unitechnik UXML, Progress PXML, and others. These are accessed via CAM Export tools after assemblies are ticketed and marked appropriately. Proper setup of shared parameters and hosting data is essential for clean export files.

Yes. EDGE^R works with cloud-hosted Revit models in BIM 360 or ACC. Key considerations include proper file syncing, central file setup, and ensuring add-ins are enabled in the cloud environment. Teams should follow best practices for worksets and local file updates.

EDGE^R provides a set of tools for standardization: Ticket Populator, Title Block Batch Populator, Template Manager, and Ticket Templates. These tools ensure consistent layouts, annotation standards, and title block data across sheets.

EDGE^R automates:

  • Warping (Auto Warping)
  • Control number assignment (Control # Incrementor)
  • Reinforcement (Copy Reinforcing, Mark Assembly as Reinforced)
  • Scheduling (BOM Hosting, Addon Hosting Updater)
  • Ticket generation (Auto Ticket Generation)

This reduces manual steps and aligns models with downstream fabrication needs.

The only component of EDGE^R that is cloud based is the licensing utility. If you are using EDGE^R in conjunction with Autodesk BIM360 or Construction Cloud, then the Revit data would be stored in the cloud, but this is not EDGE^R specific.

YouTube’s Balkan Architect offers a lot of great tutorials and this book “Commercial Design Using Autodesk Revit 2025“ has been highly recommended by several of our customers and academics teaching architecture and design.

Yes.  Revit+EDGE support many different types of architectural finishes, either custom or out of the box.  Revit walls can be updated with finishes that can then be made part of the assembly.  EDGE then updates materials, weights, and volumes for the assembly and schedules are updated to match.

Yes. EDGE can calculate brick quantities on architectural finishes by using a formula that divides the surface area by the standard brick area, providing an accurate count of bricks for the selected finish.
